Submissions

Naija Sci-Fi focus on publishing art works that are telling the Afrofuturism and Africanfuturism Narrative.  While we publish Sci-Fi works of African Nature from Nigeria, submission is open to all Writers of African descent.

We do not accept previously published works. We encourage simultaneous submissions, but do send us a mail when the work you submit to us is accepted elsewhere, we want to tell you “wakanda forever.” Also, a writer can only submit to one category during a submission period.

Naija Sci-Fi is open all year round but we accept submissions quarterly. In each quarter, we will publish a minimum of 10 works and pay a minimum of $10 each to writers whose works are accepted for publication. The number of works to be published and how much to be paid is subjected to review in each submission period.

Submissions should be made to karibu@naijascifi.com as an attachment file of MS Word format, font style of Century Gothic, and font size 12px. Include in the body of the mail, a bio of not more than 100 words, a profile image and link to your social media handles. Finally, the subject should follow this format “Category You Are Submitting to: Title of your submission.

Submission Period

Quarter One

  • Reading period: July 1 – August 31
  • Decisions: September 7

Quarter Two

  • Reading period: October 1 – November 30
  • Decisions: December 7

Quarter Three

  • Reading period: January 1 – February 28
  • Decisions: March 7

Quarter Four

  • Reading period: April 1 – May 31
  • Decisions: June 7

Specific guidelines for submission

Prose

Please send only one story between 1500 – 2500 word range at a time. We only will consider flash fiction if it arouses our interest.

Poetry

Please send only two poems at a time or maximum of 5 pages with double line spacing. Each poem should be titled and every new poem should begin on a new page. While we are accepting poems rooted in African Sci-Fi, we welcome them in any form or style.

Visual Art

African Artists are encouraged to submit digital arts in any form. Maximum of two artworks per submission period. Submissions can be made as PNG or JPEG attachment.

Essays, Reviews and Interviews

We accept essays, reviews and interviews that explore Sci-Fi in relation to Africa. Submission should be between 1500 – 3000 words. For interviews, include a 100-word bio and profile image of the interviewee.

Short Film

We accept short film of not more than 20 minutes. Kindly upload the Short film to a google drive and include the link in the body of the mail.

Playlets

Please send only one playlet story between 1500 – 2500 word range at a time. While we welcome submission in any form or style, we are on the lookout for one act plays.

Comics

Please send only one comic story between 10 – 15 pages at a time. Your comic story should be in PDF format.
